Se você, súbita e inesperadamente, sentir alegria,
não hesite. Entregue-se a ela. Há muitas
vidas e cidades inteiras destruídas ou prestes a sê-lo.
Não somos sábios, e raramente bondosos.
E muito nunca poderá ser redimido.
Ainda assim, resta à vida alguma possibilidade.
Talvez essa seja sua maneira de reagir: às vezes acontece
algo melhor que todas as riquezas ou o poder
do mundo. Pode ser qualquer coisa,
mas é bem provável que você o perceba no instante
em que o amor começa. De toda forma, frequentemente
é este o caso. De toda forma, seja o que for, não tema
sua fartura. A alegria não foi feita para ser migalha.

Don’t Hesitate
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
